I guess it helps to stand up for yourself and speak out. I posted my blog about my issue with TELUS earlier this afternoon, shortly after I sent an email about the situation to the CEO & President of TELUS, OpenMedia.ca, the telecom reporter at the Globe & Mail, and to Marketplace at the CBC. Interestingly enough just a few short minutes ago I received a phone call from a TELUS representative, who was quite nice and easy to speak with and extremely apologetic about the craziness of the situation. TELUS is recalling our account from collection and we no longer owe them any money at all. :)
I have to say, it is nice to be heard. It is unfortunate that it had to escalate to such an extent but sometimes the squeaky wheel does get greased. I still stand by my final comments about TELUS - I will never return to them as a service provider but at least, in resolution to this particular issue they have shown that there is a slight possibility that they might be friendly in the future.
